Moving Office 2003 to Replacement PCs

A

AndrewS

My company has just purchased upgrades for its machines to Windows XP from
200 Professional.

As part of the upgrade, I need to reinstall the OEM versions of Office 2003
Professional that are currently installed and working. Are there any issues
that I should know about? I have one licence key per CD.

What about activation? Will I be able to reinstall the software (and
activate it) without having to phone Microsoft for every PC? Do I need to
uninstall it from the current installation?

Thanks for your help.

Sorry I'm a little confused. Your header says you have replaced the PCs (IOW
you have new machines on which you now wish to install Office) and the body
of your message you state that you have merely upgraded from Windows 2000 to
XP. I need clarification because it has great bearing on what you can - and
cannot - do.

If you have merely upgraded the OS then your licences for Office are still
valid. However if you have done as the subject implies and replaced the
systems then, no, you cannot reinstall Office on the new machines because,
as they are OEM, the licences are forever tied to the systems they were
shipped with. If you're a company why don't you have an Open or Volume
Licensing Agreement?

Hi,

Sorry for the confusion. I have bought upgrades for Windows XP from Windows
2000 from the original PC supplier. My intention was to wipe the systems
completely, install WindowsXP and then install Office. From what you say this
is not possible, which is going to cause problems.

Assuming OEM was supplied by the PC supplier, you still have the PC's
therefore Office should reinstall.
You should perhaps check with your PC supplier, just in case their OEM is
locked to both PC and o/s
