MPEG Videos

I have a presentation that is designed with a main page with hyperlinks to
MPEG videos that have been inserted. On my laptop, during the presentation
mode, when a hyperlink to a video is selected, the presentation goes to the
vidoe, plays the video and returns to the page where the hyperlink was chosen.

When the presentation & videos are burned to a CD (presentation and video
files in the same folder), the hyperlink to the vidoes remain intact, but
when the video is complete, the presentation moves to the next screen.

How do I maintain the hyperlinks on the CD so when the vidoe is complete, it
returns to the correct page?

We can't see your CD, so you'll have to fill in some details.

Do you have only your presentation and video on the CD? I'm trying to find
out if you're relying on the users' version of PowerPoint installed on their
computer to run the presentation, or if the CD includes the PPT Viewer and
is set up so the Viewer runs the presentation. If it's the Viewer running
the presentation, which Viewer is it -- 97 or 2003?

The CD only has the presentation and videos on it. We are relying on the
users' version of PowerPoint.

The version of PowerPoint I am using is 2003.

I'm wagering they client is running an order version of PPT and there are
timing/animation differences between them. I'd suggest including the 2003
viewer on the CD and running it all from there.

Is the video playing on a PPT slide or what?

In other words, how did you set up the hyperlink? Does it go to a custom
show within the PPT file, does it call the video to play in your default
media player, does it do something different?

The vidoe plays directly on the PowerPoint slide. I am assuming because the
MPEG is inserted, it calls it from the file it points to and plays directly
in the slide.

The hyperlink is done by "insert hyperlink" and linking it to the slide
within the document.

FYI....I further played the CD on my laptop to see if an older version of
PowerPoint was an issue, but this issue exists even on my computer when
played off the CD.

I thought of this and played the presentation on my laptop that has a new
version and the issue still occurs.

How do you include a viewer on the CD?

Weird. I've never really known a slide to finish playing a video and then
return to the menu slide unless it was set up specifically to do so. That's
why I was asking how you set up the hyperlink.

(You are correct that the PPT slide calls the MPEG file on the CD. The MPEG
isn't embedded in the PPT file or anything.)

I think I'd try setting the video slide up as a custom show. Then you can
link to it using an Action Setting and specify "show and return." To set
this up, first create a custom show by going to Slide Show/Custom Show and
adding the appropriate slide(s). To set up the link to the custom show,
right-click the menu object, choose Action Setting. In the "Hyperlink to"
pull-down, select Custom Show. Choose the custom show and check the "show
and return" option.

Thanks for your help. Just to follow up, the solution was to create a CD
using the "Package for CD" command under the file menu. This command loaded
all the files and the 2003 PowerPoint Viewer that would allow the
presentation to be run automatically. When complete, all the hyperlinks
worked with the vidoe's.

Again, thanks for your help.
