Have a new computer with Windows XP and Office 2003 basic edition, I want to
know if I can use my disc from Windows 2000 Professional Office 2000 to add
Publisher 2000.

if your office 2000 license allows it (Not an OEM license), then yes, you
can. However, you may want to run a detect & repair for Office 2003 after
installation completes.

The license allows it, but how do I keep Office 2003 Windows XP without
risking messing everything up?

Publisher 2000 is on a separate CD from Office 2000. The second CD has its
own install program. Use the second CD and choose to only install Publisher
2000. In addition to Publisher 2000, the second CD has Microsoft Small
Business Tools and Shared Clipart. If the second CD installation program
does not give you a menu to choose what to install, then do a custom
installation and choose only Publisher 2000. The label on the second CD
tells you what is included.
