MS Project 2003 save issues

J

Jennifer B.

I am having two issues:

1. The most recent is my pipeline project will no longer save changes. It
acts like it is going to save then boots me out and gives me a very generic
error message and asks me to report it to Microsoft. Does anyone know if
there is a file size limitation. My Pipeline contains many project files over
the course of a year. Currently I cannot close out a number of projects that
are remaining due to this issue.

2. It was my intention to have a duplicate pipeline in another file folder
that is live and one that is for "War Games" so to speak. This way I could
make changes in one before committing a final plan. This has been impossible
because the 2nd pipeline file seems to be connected to the original. I have
tried breaking the links manually, but it always reverts back. How can I
resolve this?

Thanks,

Hello Jennifer,

It sounds as though your "pipeline" project has become corrupt. There
are some limitations about the maximum number of tasks which a project
file can contain (1 million) but I doubt you have reached that limit.

Is your pipeline project a master project with inserted subprojects? If
so, you are going have to recreate the master project by re-inserting
the sub project files into a new master.

Let us know if you are dealing with a master/sub arrangement.

Also take a look at FAQ #43 "Handling project file corruption and/or
bloat" at http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

for some guidance on potential fixes.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
