MS Project 2007 and Access

J

Jackie L

I am new to MS Project, check that... I know nothing about MS Project. What
I need to do is to be able to link the Project tables to Access. I an see
through the threads that the 2007 version does not allow saving to a .mdb.

Are there any other suggestions for linking to the project data (the export
possibilities are too limiting)?

Thanks for your suggestions,
Jackie L.

Hi,

You can't link cells in Project to data in databases (including Access),
only to cells in programs such as Excel. You need to be aware that links
between programs use old DDE technology and that it is very susceptible to
corrupting files if you mishandle them (move, rename or over-write files).

Project has many Export options. You can save as .mdb, xml, xls, txt and
more. In Project look at file types in the File, Save as dialog box.

Project 2007 does not have a Save As .mdb. I am not going to be altering the
data in any way, just downloading it to my Access data. Also, the work data
used in the clients' project is not available as an export option.

Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Jackie

Ouch! I hadn't realised Project 2007 had lost save to ODBC database
functionality. If you need that you have to use Project 2003. If you have
access to someone else's 2003 CD then use your 2007 license as the license
for 2003, no need to buy 2003.

I can think of a number of clients of mine who won't be able to update to
2007 now unless they redevelop a whole load of code. Nasty!

Your only other alternative is to export data directly using VBA. This is
relatively easy (Hint: especially if you use the sample code in my book!) or
I can do it for you for a fee. You could then export exactly the data you
need in the format you need to the file you want just by clicking a button.

Thanks for your help but the client will not go down to 2003 due to features
in 2007 they are not willing to give up.
