MS Project certification

I'm looking to take a MS Project certification test but I don't know what's
available to take, where to take it, or where to find study material. Is
there a MS Project 2003 test, 2002, or 2000 test? Where can I find good
study materials? And where can I take the test? Thank You!

Have you gone to the MS site and looked up the Project certification
information?

I have taken the Certification last week in London.
As textbook I have used "Microsoft Project 2003 Inside-out" together with a
classical text on Project Management theory.
As far as I know the latest certification available is for Project 2002.
Personally I work on Project 2003 but I did not encounter any major problems
during my exam.
Good luck for you certification,

The certification for Project was discontinued with for 2003. I think you
can still take the 2002 exams. Why they dropped it is one of those strange
imponderables like why a triangle has 2 sides. All I can figure out is that
Project is a diffferent breed of software from the other MS Office
applications and expertise in the software without a companion understanding
of the theoretical PM foundations is not sufficient to make one competant in
using it. Hence certification in the software as an indicator of potential
job competancy is misleading in the context of Project, unlike, say,
certificaction in MS Word.

We use the Orange Belt certification that's available from the
International Institute for Learning (IIL.com) and have found it to be
very helpful.

Maybe you can share your experience.

Before I register for the course ($350) can you please outline the
exact course material that I will receive for the Orange Belt Self
Study program for Microsoft Project 2002 (PT240). I am concerned about
the cost in relation to value.

Some other questions I have include: What's on the CD that comes with
the course? Are there any practice exams with the course? Besides the
book "exactly" what other material do I get? And finally, can I
take the test without purchasing the course?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Hi aww91,

You may want to contact the International Institute for Learning
(www.IIL.com) directly for the quickest answers to your questions. It
isn't clear to me that TLL works for the institute.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Julie

Found out a few items from iil.com:

* The self study kit comes with a cd-rom, the dynamic scheduling text
book, and a slide/workbook.
* The slide/workbook is a workbook that shows the slides as if you
attended a live class
* (Not surprisely ) the cost of the exam is incorporated into the fee
of the course so you cannot take the exam without paying for the
course.

Hope this helps,

Took the Orange Belt course several years ago and it was a lot of material.
My sense is that you need to be either very familiar with MS Project and new
to Project Management, or the other way around to not feel overwhelmed.
Doesn't sound like that is a problem for folks here, but before recommending
it to others, it's worth considering. I will say that I can almost
immediately tell if a project schedule has been prepared by a graduate of the
course... they do a good job of teaching sound practices. (and no, I don't
work for IIL)
