MS Project Linked to MS Access Database

Can Microsoft Project data be linked to MS Access? I'd like to be able to
modify data in a MS Project file that will automatically update an Access
database. Can this be done?

Hi LotB,

You can save a MS Project files as an Access database or a project database.
Select File > Save As and select the appropriate Save as type.

You will want to carefully read the Project Data Reference file which
explains the Project database information. For Project 2003 the file is
called PJDB.HTM For Project 2002 the file is called PROJDB.HTM

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi LotB,

Don't apologize, it's not an easy file to find ;-)

It is *usually* stored in the 1033 folder under the Project Program Files on
your C:\ drive.

You may find it faster by searching for the file using Start > Search > All
files and folders (Windows XP) or a similar command in your operating
system.

Hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Julie:

Found it. So let me see if I understand what I read — the "Project
database" to which the page refers — this can be an Access database, correct?
It seems from what I read on PJDB.HTM that if I make changes to the Project
files they'll automatically update the Project database. Can this be done
with an existing Access database? In other words, do I have to create an
entirely new Project database, or can I add updatable MS Project data to an
existing Access database?

Hope that made sense...
