can one change the start field from date to time in ms project

Alka,
If you mean to show the time only, then no. The Start field will always
have a date because a date is required to truly define a point in time.
If on the other hand you wish to show the time in addition to the date,
go to Tools/Options/View tab and pick a Date Format that includes time.

I suppose if for some strange reason you really wanted to just show the
time only, you could set up a custom field with a formula that strips
out the time portion of the Start field and shows it.

Hope this helps.

John and all,

One of the date format options is 12:33!
It only makes sense for one-day projects but I've seen some.

Jan,
My bad. Believe it or not, I checked the available options before I
responded. Obviously I didn't look close enough because I missed it.
Sometimes I get in too much of a rush.

Good catch, my apologies.
