MS Publisher to FrontPage

It depends on what you want to do. Yes, you can do a website with Publisher
but bear in mind, it's primary purpose is for creating printed material. You
may want to bop on over to the publisher.webdesign newsgroup and read thru
some of the issues.

If all you want is a simple site, you're okay. If you foresee doing more and
more with our site down the road, start with the program that was designed
to create/maintain websites - Front Page.

I guess I should have started with FP. The file I up load from Pub is 25MB
and it takes time. I have read the MS Pub threads. Pup had done a great job
so far, I just don't like to change when the other SW will not import.

I'm pretty sure this is on the FAQ page -
http://www.publishermvps.com/Default.aspx?tabid=30 - which is the best place
to start. In addition to being in our web design forum with web topics such
as yours.

You do not import a pub file in FP, totally wrong thinking, remember only
Publisher can open and use a Pub file. FP works with html files. It is the
html files Be sure to review the left side column on
http://www.publishermvps.com/WebDesign/tabid/29/Default.aspx . Note that I
strongly recommend against crossing html between the two applications.

I am going to take over a website created with Publisher. I don't own
Publisher but do own and have experience with Front Page. Based on all I've
read here, FP is the appropriate app for this purpose. I take seriously
David's caveat about "crossing html files" between the two programs. However,
if I can't do this, I'm looking at starting from scratch trying to copy the
"look and feel" of the original site. Argh-h-h.......

Concern: When using FP I received a message "problem with the server" or
somethng like that, now I can't used front page. I even tried taking the
program off my computer and reloading the program, but the same message comes
on. I created a whole website using Pub and after reading all the messages,
I need to go to FP (not knowing how to use it) but I don't get very far with
this "sever" issue.

1. This newsgroup is for Publisher, not FrontPage.

2. Telling us "I received a message "problem with the server" or somethng
like that" tells up absolutely nothing. Post your question in the FrontPage
newsgroup and make sure you know the exact message. That is, if you want to
use FrontPage.

Post this at microsoft.public.frontpage.client newsgroup.

There's probably more words in your error than "problem with server" you
need to post the entire error when you get to the Frontpage group.
