MS Query v.X and MyODBC and iODBC SDK

I still can't get Excel to connect with the installation and settings
I have.

I've installed:
mysql's odbc drivers
openlinksw iODBC Administrator application
I've set-up the ODBC.preferences and "ODBC Installer.preference" in
~/Library/Preferences as discussed elsewhere.

The one missing peice from the tutorials I've read is what settings to
use for the DSN that you have to choose from the MS Query dialog.
I've tried nothing, I've tried mimicking the data instructed in
ODBC.preferences ... to no avail.

I'm at a loss .. help

BTW - I have the mysql binary installed and running locally. I've
verified permissions on the command line (and thru php scripts).

Thanks

This is me again ... I'm guessing that maybe the problem is the my
MySQL binary I installed does not support ODBC? I installed from
Fink, which installed "/sw/sbin/mysqld Ver 3.23.56 for
apple-darwin6.4 on powerpc". Is there a command to tell what was
built into this binary? I tried "/sw/bin/mysqladmin variables" but
there didn't seem to be anything about MyODBC. I guess while I await
some help I'll try installing the MacOSX binary from mysql.com.

Bill,

I recommend trying it with Openlink's ODBC driver for MySQL. You can
download a free trial version from http://www.openlinksw.com.

That is the driver that we tested with MySQL, and it works for me using
Excel X SR1 and the iODBC driver manager.
