MS Word Virus Scan

When I access Word 2002 it takes a whil;e to open because it says 'Requesting Virus Scan'. Can anyone tell me why this happens, where it is originating from, and how to disable it? I have Norton Antivirus. Thank you.

Disable the Office Plug-in in NAV.

Open NAV applet, click Options, then Miscellaneous, then uncheck Microsoft
Office Plug-in.
