MS Word won't open text files

When using Word to open a text file, I get an error
message that says this is not a "web archive". For some
reason there is cross linking. Anyone know what i need to
do to get this problem stopped?

Which version of Word? What's the extension of the file
you're trying to open? Are you sure it's a plain text file?
Have you activated Tools/Options/General/Confirm
conversions on open and then chosen "plain text" as the file
type?
