Multiple contact folders

Have upgraded a user from Outlook 97 to 2000 to XP and
now to 2003. Each time a new contact folder is added.
When user goes to new message, clicks on to: and then
uses the drop down box, there are 4 contacts now with
only the last one being correct.

My question is: How to delete the previous 3?

Delete them here:
Tools > E-mail accounts > View or change existing directories or address
books > Outlook Address Book > Change.
