Multiple footnotes

I am trying to create a document which uses -
simultaneously - a few kinds of footnotes. For example, I
need some footnote references to be marked by Arabic
numerals, and others, beside/under them, in Roman
numerals. Is this at all possible in Word 2000?

e.g.:

This message(1) is intended for experienced Word(2)
users, but I doubt(i) whether anyone(3) has a solution to
this problem(ii). Perhaps I should use LaTeX instead(4).

(1) Dated 23 November.
(2) Word 2000.
(3) i.e. of the experienced users.
(4) A generic typsetting program.
(i) verb.
(ii) noun.

Will be grateful for any help with this.

This should work if you use symbols instead of roman numerals. Use your
citation footnotes as normal, and then use Custom Marks for your explanatory
notes. More manual trouble, but then you are not asking Word to keep track
of two sets of AutoNumbered Footnotes. Or I guess you could enter the roman
numerals as the symbol.

I have gotten Word to spit out footnotes, some marked by * and others with
regular numbers, on the same page. This is only a small-scale solution,
though.
