Multiple Licenses?

I need to install Office on 3 computers. When trying to find information on
the number of PCs included in a standard license, I find nothing. When I look
for volume licensing, I can only find programs for 5 or more PCs. Does this
mean I can install Office on up to 5 PCs out of the box, or am I missing
something?

Depends on what version (97, 2000, XP, 2003, or 2007) and what edition
(e.g., Standard, Professional, etc.) and whether it is an OEM or retail
or volume-license copy.

You're missing something. The details on where you can install Office
are included in that editions EULA. So summarize:
- OEM edition can be installed only to the PC that it came with can
cannot be moved to another PC.
- Volume licensed editions can be installed as many times as you've
paid for.
- Academic editions require you to read the EULA and/or check with the
academic supplier
- Retail editions vary depending on the edition and the Office
version.

More about the retail editions. Office 2007 Home & Student and Office
2003 Student & Teacher can be installed on 3 computers as long as none
of them are used for commercial use. The other editions generally
(real the EULA) allow you to install on one desktop and one laptop as
long as you are the user of both and both will not be used at the same
time.

Unless you qualify for Office 2007 H&S or Office 2003 S&T, to install
on 3 computers requires that you buy 3 copies.

A single license means a SINGLE PC. In the old days you could do the
office PC and your home PC or a laptop, with Office 2003 and newer it's
not like that any more.

retail licence for Office Standard allows install on one PC and one laptop,
both owned by the Licensee....
