I would like to combine two presentations into one, however they both are
using different designs in their master slides. When I insert the slides
from a file, I lose the master slide design. How can I do this with out
losing the individual designs. I am working in Powerpoint 2000 sp

In the insert menu choose "slides from file". Select the appropriate file and
the appropriate slides. on the bottom of that dialog box there is a check box
that says "keep source formatting". Check that box and insert your slides,
the backgrounds will remain as in their original file.
Good Luck!

Sorry to say that multiple masters were added in PPT 2002. In PPT 2000, you
will need to fake it with either linked presentation files or by just
putting the designs on the actual slides and coping them.

"Keep source formatting" is not available in PPT 2000. This option, related
to the multiple masters feature, was not introduced until PPT 2002.
