My PowerPoint Format Painter disappeared

I'm running Office 2003. For some reason, PP shows a greyed brush icon
for the Format Painter.
What's wrong? How can I activate this option?

Ran,

You have to have an object selected for the Painter to be available. Is this
the case? What type of object are you trying to format?

whether you are using vba,
whether your dog has fleas, or
anything else relevant.
