Hi all,
On Windows XP with Office XP.
I did something dumb, but as you will see, my computer was even dumber than
I was, Thanks Mr. Gates!
I installed Quark Xpress and dowloaded the tutorial from their web site. In
the intro they suggested that I be aware of the location of a certain
"XPress Preferences.prf" file. I located it and since there was an icon next
to it, I figured Windows knew what to do with it (It was the Office Suite
logo, the four puzzle pieces). So, here is my dumb mistake, never open a
file if you are not sure what to do with it... I double click on it and I
get a wizard dialog box trying to install Outlook 2002 which is already
installed and running perfectly well thank you. So I hit "Cancel" in the
bottom right corner, I get another screen asking me for my account info, I
hit cancel and then Outlook loads, but as if it was brand new. All the
accounts are gone, no more contacts in the contact folder, no more personal
folders where I store my clients e-mails, no more entries in my calendar,
everything gone, except the toolbar personalizations I had done.
Now, I know my stuff is still in the computer, but how do I reset Outlook to
be like it was 10 minutes ago? Can it be done? What the heck is a "*.prf"
file? Why did it try to reinstall Outlook over an existing working copy?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
