NEED HELP W/STYLES

DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED!!! NOW WHENEVER I OPEN UP MSWORD, I GET THE CHARACTERS AUTOMATICALLY. I HAVE TRIED TO CHANGE MY STYLES. GOING TO FORMAT/STYLES, THE STRANGE THING IS THAT ALL THE STYLES HAVE CHARACTERS IN FRONT OF THEM TOO. I JUST WANT TO BE ABLE TO USE MSWORD, WITHOUT ANYTHING ON THE PAGE, UNLESS I ADD IT

It sounds like you might be seeing the formatting marks. Try clicking the
show/hide button on the standard toolbar to hide the characters. If you are
not sure of which button to click search help for "Formatting Marks".
