Office 2003 , Word, Excel --

I am a Disabled War Vet (Photographer) & POW, and use the computer
and the Internet every day for various research. I use a “Wireless
Mouse” and an “On Screen Keyboard” in place of the normal Keyboard
most of the time. I often make notes and copy text and images from
Wikipedia encyclopedia, etc; I then paste various (Legal Free Use)
text and images into MS Notepad and Paint.

If I decide to keep a copy of certain information; I save a MS
Notepad and/or Paint document by: selecting desirable “Key Word(s)”
with the mouse > then “Right-Click” to copy my selection > then “Left-
Click” File > Save As > and then in the ensuing > Blank “File Name:
Dialog Box” > [ I “Right-Click”, and paste the previously copied
selection ] -- thereby saving the file with a meaningful label. This
is very easy and I do it all the time, using many programs off and on
the Internet.

My VERITABLE QUANDARY.
My terrible aggravating longstanding problem is that I cannot do this
natural procedure in Microsoft Office 2003, Word, Excel, etc. When I
go to “Right-click” the Blank “File Name: Dialog Box” – the “Right-
Click” does nothing! It is disabled, and I need to overcome this one
too.

As it is -- I have to set everything down, and reach for the Physical
Keyboard – and then make an awkward for me, "CTRL-V" -- to paste the
text that I want for a File name. If I can do this using MS Notepad,
or Paint and countless other programs – I sure should be able to do it
in the M$ Office Programs.

I’ll guess that fixing this will be embarrassingly very easy – but it
escapes me how – please, will some kind and knowledgeable person help
me out as very soon as possible?

Thanks & Peace

I'm not sure how to do this either, but notice that when you do File,
Save As, Word suggests "the first line of text.doc" as the default file
name, so if you typed your keywords at beginning of the file, would that
do the job for you?

Thanks for answering soon Steve:

I got excited to think there might be a workaround for me to try.
When I first tried to do this, I realized that I have been repeatedly
prompted with the name of a file I had saved some time ago. I believe
that I must have screwed up the "Normal Template" by making one up
that includes -- page numbering and custom border spacing.

So when I would open a new "Doc" I do get the numbering and spacing I
want; but it has been suggesting a file name that I used right after I
goofed with the "Normal Template".

I just restored and fixed it to get back to a blank prompt when I
first open a new document; actually it will prompt for Doc1, Doc2,
Doc3, Doc4.doc --etc. when the page is blank. Now, If I paste or "key"
in text in the first line; the prompt __DOES in fact include__ said
text in the file - [Save As: Prompt].

So, this is somewhat of a welcome "work-around", and I thank you for a
useful clue.

But I still think that this expen$ive MS Office Suite should darn
well be able to do what virtually every other program that I use --
can do. If you do find out; how to "Right Click & Paste" copied text
into the Save As: [Dialog Box] -- to save a file name -- _Please Send
Me an Email_, as well as post here for others, this is a very useful
method_.

Thanks again,
Peace

Nice detective work in getting this sorted out and back to normal.

You might want to make the same suggestion here (and explain the reasoning
behind it, just as you've already done with us):

How do I send PowerPoint 2007 feedback or report bugs to Microsoft?

Steve's right...great detective work! Just out of curiosity, do you have
Vista? If so, there's a speech recognition program I use all the time w/a
headset for basic commands and my wrists don't ache anymore. Things like copy
and paste are very straightforward/browsing is a breeze. A little more
difficult to use in office apps, but definitely possible. Here's more info if
it helps: http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1558,2109974,00.asp
