New autoexec file

I know this is not the proper newsgroup, but I couldn't find a newsgroup that
really fit this question.. and you all are always so helpful.

I have WIN XP, I'm trying to edit the startup batch file to see the programs
that automatically launch at startup. In the old days, it was the autoexec
file, evidently there is another file out there for this.

What is the new autoexec batch file for WIN XP?

To launch a Windows program whenever your computer starts, just add a
shortcut to the Startup folder (under Start | Programs).

If you have a DOS program that needs an actual autoexec.bat, make a
shortcut, and under the properties of the shortcut
Program tab, Advanced button, you can specify an autoexec.bat. The default
one is called autoexec.nt, in the windows\system32 folder.

Mr. Browne,
Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, I don't want to add additional
programs at startup. My system is taking longer and longer to complete all
of the "SYSTEM IDLE" process at startup.

I was thinking this autoexec file would list all of the exe files that are
launched at startup so I could manually rem them out. Can I do this with the
autoexec.nt file? It looks like this file is just for DOS programs.

Thanks for all of your help.

From the Start menu, choose Run. Enter:
msconfig

That utility lets you configure what runs at startup.

You can also see a list in this program:
Start | Programs | Accessories | System Tools | System Information
under the setting:
Software | Startup

To remove a setting from the registry, use regedit (with caution).
