'New Document' is actually old letter

Version: 2004 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel Hi everyone,

I'm visiting my mother over vacation and for the life of me I cannot figure out how she has messed this up.

When I open Word 2004, a letter that she typed several months ago opens up as the 'blank document'. When I go up to 'file' and click 'new document' I just get the same letter. I can't find where Word looks to reference this. I can't even find a copy of this letter anywhere on the computer to delete it.

Any help is appreciated.

Sorry, I should have clarified. I want to make my 'new document' a fresh, clean document. I can't figure out how to wipe out this old letter.

Hi,

every new document in Word is based on a template. Unless you instruct Word
to use a custom template, Word uses the Normal template, and the letter
somehow got stored in that Normal template. To get rid of this text, open
Word, then click on File>Open and navigate to ~/Documents/Microsoft User
Data, where you should see a file called Normal. Open it, delete the text,
then save the template. You should now get a blank document when you create
a new document.
