new document number

Have a minor problem with Word XP.

When I open it the first document is always called Document 2. Although
there seems to be no performance issue I would prefer to have this back to
normal.

I have tried detect & repair - to no avail.

Anyone know how to correct it?

The first requirement is to restart Windows. Then clear out temp files. See
