New download of Outlook Express

While trying to access a newly created Hotmail account, a
message told me that I needed to download the latest
version of outlook. This I did. The email screen is a new
one with, I presume, the new version, but all the emails I
had in my inbox and other folders have disappeared, are no
longer available. is it possible to get them back?
