New windows update:-->

Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1
Download size: 2.5 MB, 6 minutes
The Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 is the application installation and
configuration service for Windows. The additional features in version 3.1
help make creating, distributing, and managing updates to applications
easier and more efficient. Details...

After a reinstallation I noticed all was fine, things went wrong between
doing a windows update and installing Norton 2002. Seeing this new update
available, and having problems with all things to do with installing /
uninstalling, me thinks this could be part of the problem. I am have just
manually uninstalled it and am rebooting.

Could this be a MS boo boo

No such luck! another few hours wasted. After reinstalling and withholding
the update of the new installer. Still did not work. Maybe it's Norton.
