New slides deleted when saving under a new name

I started with an older presentation, and I made a few new slides. When I
saved with a new version number (v 2), the slides I worked on disappeared.
The presentation is big, (20 MB) but this is the first time slides are
disappearing. They are not hidden.

what is going on? i am saving on my hard drive as I work on the
presentation, but this is scaring me, I am wasting a lot of time making the
new slides (which I had to redo twice already)

Two things I would do:

(1) Go to the Help menu and choose Check for Updates and follow the
instructions to install the latest Service Pack.
(2) Turn off fast saves.

Where on your hard drive are you saving, Maude?

I ask because, well, we have this one lab at school where the computers are
set up incorrectly. So, whenever I save to the desktop on those systems, my
file just simply isn't there. The default desktop I see after I log in isn't
actually *mine* (it's something like C:\Documents and
Settings\<school_IT_person>\Desktop), so I have to go looking for
C:\Documents and Settings\<mylogin-name>\Desktop in order to find my file.
(Sheesh, it's a freaking technology school -- I'm paying money for what
again?) So I'm looking at the IT person's desktop, but when I save files to
the desktop, they're saving to the desktop that's under my name. (I know, it
doesn't make sense. But my point is, weird things can happen with desktops
and My Documents.)

Also, users often open PPT files from Outlook or from IE, make changes and
save, and expect the changes to be retained on the file attachment (Outlook)
or the server (IE). It doesn't work that way. Your changes are being saved
to a file in a temporary file folder, so you'd have to go find the file
there.

Ok, I have had this happen a couple of times. Both times the original
had been created on a Mac. I digress but why when you save a Mac file to
Pc it is invariably smaller. Anyway the only way out was to "round
trip" the file. So my conclusion was that in changing platforms some
corruption occurred to the new 'flag' and it was saving the original
'undone' portion.

Probably lost everyone there, but made sense to me. :)
