New user...need help!

Hey guys, as a new user to Project, I need some help. I'm currently creating
a very basic project, and I need to export the Gantt chart to powerpoint.
I've figured out how to do that, but I would like to have several "callouts"
or "notes" explaining certain things in the project. Obviously, I could add
the notes in Powerpoint, but I'd rather create them in Project. Can anyone
tell me how to do this?

Also, is it possible to create a new column that would appear on the right
side of the Gantt chart?

And as far as creating recurring tasks...is there a way to set up the
default Bar style whenever I create a new recurring task? The current Bar
style I get is not what I want, and it's very time consumming changing every
single instance of the task.

Also, I would like to add some text underneath certain tasks. I don't want
to enter the text into the same space as the task...so is there a way to add
it underneath, but not have any kind of scheduling attached to it?

Thanks in advance for all your help!

Hi,

Where would these notes have to appear? In the left or the right (graphical)
part of the view?

Hi,

Many ways to do that, the implest (P2002 and >) is to insert the column
anywhrer then drag it to the extreme right.

The bar style for recurring task is the "Rolled up task" bar.
What exactly do you want?

Hi,

again, you are particularly vague... foir CERTAIN tasks. Is this a family of
taks that can be identified such that a Bar Style can be set up? As a
general rule, look up FAQ 31, Customizing Tak bars, URL of FAQs in ly
signature.

I was actually hoping to have columns on the right of the graphic. I mean
the far far right. Does that make sense?

Whenever I create a recurring task....it shows up as blue colored block
lines. I want them to be black triangles. I can change each occurence but
that takes a while. I was hoping to be able to define what a recurring task
should look like in the Gantt Chart....so that whenever I created a recurring
task, I wouldn't have to reformat the bar style.

My vaugeness isn't intentional...but rather a result of my lack of knowledege
about Project. What I would like to do is add an "objective" underneath a
couple of different tasks. Just purely informational....a "note" if you will
desicribing the task above it. I know I can just add the text in the same
cell as the task, but that doesn't seem to be a good solution. So I was
hoping I could just add it underneath the task but whenever I try to do
it....I get another task, complete with scheduling parameters. Again, I'm
just looking for text with nothing else attached.

Hi,

Insert, Drawing, select the text box. Right click for properties. Fonts are
set through Format, Text Styles.

Hi,

Oh, you mean in the left part? No Go I'm afraid.
You can add text below the Gantt Bar (Format, Bar, Bar text) but any line
left is a task.
OTOH, double-click on the tak line, in task Information select Notes, you
will hget n indicator in the Indicator column with a popup of the note you
inserted

You've been a huge help. Thank you very much.

I was able to add the text box, but have not been able to format the font.
I've gone to Format - Text Style....but I don't see Text Box as an option.
I've also changed the font for "All" and it changed everything but my text
box. What am I doing wrong. Thanks again.

One more question.....is there a way to automatically update the Gantt Bar to
show "percent complete" as merely a function of time. Meaning, if the task
started July 1 and ended July 31....since today is July 26, the task is 83%
(26/31) complete. Can this be done?

Hi,

Tools, Tracking, Update Project, Update Work as complete through...
Then the chart will show this completeness as usual.

Hope this helps

[Julie] I'm afraid Project has very limited graphic abilities. You
could view the drawing toolbar and then add text boxes in the Gantt
Graphic, but true callouts would need to be done in PowerPoint.
Also, is it possible to create a new column that would appear on the
right
side of the Gantt chart?

[Julie] No, sorry. The table (left side) is editable by adding custom
fields, but appearing to the right of the Gantt chart, no.
And as far as creating recurring tasks...is there a way to set up the

[Julie] Have you tried Format > Bar Styles? This will allow you to edit
the definition of all the recurring task bars in the selected view.
Also, I would like to add some text underneath certain tasks. I don't

[Julie] No, I'm sorry. You could add Notes to the task, but any row in
the table is a task, complete with dates.
Thanks in advance for all your help!
