Newbie question--transferring from Word

T

Tina

I am going to be publishing a Newsletter and thought I
could prepare it in Word (for printing), save it as HTML,
then publish it on our website by importing it into
Frontpage. If I save it as HTML and try to import, I get
a fatal error and FrontPage restarts. If I try to import
it as a doc file, the text boxes come across, but any
graphics within them are lost. Is my whole process
flawed, or am I just doing something wrong technically?
I haven't gone real far with it, so all I have in the
Word doc so far is a text box containing a Logo and title
info, another text box for a calendar section, and a
sample article. Any help will be very much appreciated.

Hi, I've been playing around with this since I posted
earlier, and I've got it where it's importing the file (I
was stupidly telling it to "insert" as opposed
to "import") (Sorry--I'm new at this!) Anyway, now it
will import the text boxes and the text itself, but NOT
the graphics. They just come up with a little "x" where
the graphic should be. Is there a way to get it to show
the graphics, too? If I can get the graphics in there,
it will be working exactly the way I would like. Thank
you very much for answering my post--I really appreciate
the help.

Hi Tina,

You should be able to import the saved Word HTML file.
What is the specifics of the error?

You will have to import the graphics into your disk based
web. The red x's indicate that the graphics are someplace
othjer than in your web (ie, they are on your computer
but NOT within your web).

I hope this helps.

Craig,

No, I didn't really import them--I just inserted them on
Frontpage as if they were new.

Tina -

That's your problem. You got the word documents recognized by FP, but
not the graphics themselves.

The graphics must be in a file (folder) on the local hard drive, then File |
Imported into the images folder in FP before being inserted on a page and
saved.
