Outlook crashed and since then it will say sending message 1 of 1 even when I

Is it perhaps a stuck Read Receipt?

I have a similar problem. I have one message in outbound but when it sends it
reports "sending 2 of 2". No matter how many messages in the outbound it
always reports sending one more than the actual number. I did check for a
stuck read receipt and there weren't any.

Are you perhaps using Outlook 2007 with more than one account configured?
There is a counting bug that causes this. It's just a miscount; it doesn't
do anything else or do any harm.
A fix is expected in Office 2007 Service Pack 2.
