No response to post. What do I do?

Phil James

I posted a question on "microsoft.public.word.general" and have received no
response.

The issue appears to be a corrupt document template "normal.dot". I'd like
to know how to fix the problem because Word is virtually useless to me until
I can.

Should I post the question somewhere else?

I've been unable to find a solution in Microsoft Knowledge Base.

Is there a way to re-install normal.dot? ...or Word without re-installing
all of Office? Does anyone have thoughts as to where to go with this issue?

Many thanks...

Phil

It is always a good idea to tell us what version of Word you are using
as the answer may vary with version.

How long has it been since you posted your first question? Did you go
back to that news group to check to see if you had a reply. Note: replies
are not sent to individuals, answers come as a response posted in the
newsgroup.

OK answer. The usual answer is to exit Word just delete the file
normal.dot and when you restart Word it replaces the now missing file with
another. You will loose any modifications you may have made to normal.dot
however and I have not personally tried this with all versions of Word.

Joseph...

Thanks for your help. I responded to your other email separately, but to
answer your questions...

It's Word 2003.

I've changed the name of "normal.dot" hoping for a new copy, but the new
global template does the same thing, so it's probably a corruption in that.
Any way to get a good copy to replace it?

Posted 4/9 -- and yes, I've been back several times.

Hi Phil,

To add to the other replies, the newsgroup, microsoft.public.word.general,
was discontinued on the Microsoft hosted news server,
news://msnews.microsoft.com and isn't watched as much as those on that
server are.
