No "W" icon for Word Documents

R

Ray

None of my Word files have the "W" icon. All others, like Access and Excel,
have the appropriate icons associated with them. I have uninstalled and
reinstalled and have had no change in the results. The file properties are
all listed as "opens with Word". Any ideas?????

None. Just the generic, undefined file type icon.

What happens when you double click on the file name? Does Word open?

OK Try this:

Right-Click on the Word 2003 link by going to: start, All Programs,
Microsoft Office, Right-Click on Microsoft Word

Select Properties
On the Shortcut tab ther are three buttons at the bottom one of which
[middle] is to change Icon
Click on it and change the icon from there.

Well in that case just try Detect and Repair from Word application.

Help, Detect and Repair

Wait until this finishes copying all the missing files.

Can you check whether the Winword.exe file has any icon attached to it.
The file is located here:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11

The file should be 8th from the bottom.

WimWord has the correct icon. All the shortcuts in the start menu have the
correct icon. Only the word documents dont have it.

OK try this last solution from me:

1) Launch Windows Explorer
2) Tools, Folder Options, File Types
3) Scroll down and find DOC
4) Click once on it and then click on Advanced button
5) Change Icon from this tab

If this works then you also need to change the icon for DOT (Word
document Templates) Files.

Getting closer. Got message "cannot find

Are you using Office 2003? The number you have given does not belong to
Office 2003? I can send you the file by email but first let me know
whether you are using Office 2003 or Office XP?

Have you tried using Windows Explorere to find the file here (using your
number:

c:\windows\installer\{90280409-6000-11d3-8cfe-0050048383c9}

Just copy and paste the above path in Explorer and see what is in
there. The folder is normally hidden so you may need to unhide it
first.

Yes. Am using 2003. Cannot find the installer folder. Have allowed hidden
folders. Have installed on another computer and it works just fine. Just
cannot see the installer folder.

I have posted the Office 2003 file here:

http://www.geocities.com/xfsgpr/wordicon2003.zip

The above file goes in:

C:\WINDOWS\Installer\{90110409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9}

I am logging off for now but I will be online later today to see the
progress of this problem unless it has been resolved by somebody else.

Regards,
