Non enterprise projects

S

Steve Shaffer

I am running server 2002 and project pro. I have several
projects that were created using prior versions of the
program. When I try to put them on the server I receive
the following error:

"You are trying to publish a non-enterprise project to
the Microsoft Server.
The administrator settings on the server do not allow you
to publish non-enterprise projects."

I have two questions.

1. How do you convert a project into a "enterprise" one?
2. How can the server settings be adjusted to allow non-
enterprise projects?

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Steve -

Before attempting to publish a project, it must be saved
to the server - making it an enterprise project. You can
do this two ways, the first of which is preferable to the
second:

1. Tools -> Enterprise Options -> Import Project to
Enterprise
This will open an Import Wizard and will walk you through
the process. It makes sure no lose ends are left untied.
Once you have done this, you will be able to publish your
project without error.

2. Open the project plan in Project Pro. Perform a
File / Save As and Save the Project to the Server. You
will then be able to publish your project.

Hope that helps.

I am having the same issue as Steve, however, the Tools ->
Enterprise Options -> Import Project to Enterprise option
is grayed out.

I have not tried the second option described, but I am
curious about why the first option is unavailable to me.

Kindly,
Matthew

Matthew --

If the Import Project to Enterprise option is grayed out on your Enterprise
Options menu, this indicates that you are not logged into the Project
Server. You can confirm this fact by clicking Tools - Enterprise Options -
Microsoft Project Server Accounts. In the middle of the Microsoft Project
Server Accounts dialog box, you will see a Current Account listed. If the
Current Account is "My Computer" then you are not logged into the Project
Server.

To log in, you must have a valid Project Server account with project manager
permissions. To create an account, click the Add button, type an account
name and a URL for your Project Server. It is a good idea to click the Test
Connection button to make sure you've got a good connnection. Also, be sure
to select the "Set as default account" option, and then click the OK button.
In the lower left corner of the Microsoft Project Server Accounts dialog
box, also remember to select "Manually control connection state" option and
then click OK.

Once you have done this, close Microsoft Project 2002 and then restart it.
You will now be prompted to log in, so click the Connect button to log in.
If you click Tools - Enterprise Options, all of your menu choices should be
activated. Hope this helps.

Dale:

Thank you very much, the only thing I didn't have
was "Manually control connection state" selected. Once I
made that change to my user account and restarted the
application, everything is as described.

Is there a bug in the "Automatically detect connection
state" options? I had the appropiate account set as
default and it wasn't working.

Thanks again,
Matthew
