Normal.dot vs Normal.fmt

Can someone explain the difference between these two files? My manager uses word and when I search his entire pc for the normal.dot file all that is found is the normal.fmt file. He is using NT if that helps

Is the normal.fmt the same as the norma.dot in the NT world??? Any help is appreciated

They are not the same!

Normal.dot is a hidden file in the folder indicated at Word > tools >
options > file locations > user templates. You will need to set Windows
Explorer to display hidden files in order to locate it.
