anyone have any resources for fixing this? or better yet how do i remove
all traces of it from the registry so i can just reinstall office?

Just out of curiosity, why do you want to remove it?
It's an integral part of Word. If it's not there then Word will create a new one.

The problem is somthing curropted it, its been renamed and everytime I close
word it tries to save it again.

With Word closed;
Find the file and rename it to something like "Normaldot.old", or delete it if you're not
concerned with any customizations/macro's etc that it may contain.
Open Word, it will create a new Normal.Dot.
