-> NOT FOR RETAIL OR OEM DISTRIBUTION <- ???

I would hardly call FP 2002 "outdated" - it is the second most recent release
being used today - not everyone has WinXP and FP 2003.

You could have bought FP 2003 since it doesn't use "server extensions 2003" it
uses the 2002 version of the S.E. - there's nothing new in FP2003 that requires
new server extensions.

OEM is "Original Equipment Manufacturer" - which usually indicates is is
"bundled" software sold usually with a significant hardware device - such as a
hard disk. e.g. if you buy a DVD-ROM player, you would get a software dvd
decoder player such as PowerDVD (OEM Version, not the Retail product). .....so in
this case Frontpage OEM has come with some hardware device (or in some instances
a new computer).

You'd be better using FP2003, or move to a host that fully supports whatever
features it offers.

Well since they won't help - this NG is full bottle on FP2003 and is your best
source of info concerning using the software. Who needs yahoo?

Thanks for the tip. However, I always have that on. I need to update/replace
the spell check library, but not sure just how to go about that. Sometimes,
well, a lot of the time you can misspell a word as a simple test and spell
check does not see it. I then reboot the computer to get it to work again.
Soon, I will have a new computer to work with. Does FP 2002 come with its
very own (spell check) dictionary?

Hi Andrew,

That's what I thought, so I have fully downloaded all twenty three thousand
postings here to review later for helpful information, I'll chip away at
them over the coming months ahead.

Thanks for your reply!

Hi Andrew,

I had trouble with my FP 2003 and now I think it was do to me, as I did not
follow Yahoo's guidelines in getting set up properly as I never had to do
that with FP 2000 before. Just because I have 4 years under my belt and
hundreds of hours with FP 2000 does not mean I know what I am doing on a
professional level. I am still very much an armature at this, despite my
experience. The features that Yahoo does not support for FP 2003 are a bit
over my head at this point as I don't even see myself using those features
anyway. My sites are very basic, but as I learn more, I might change my
tune. I don't even know what I would use server extensions for.

OEM is "Original Equipment Manufacturer" - which usually indicates is is

-----> I do not know which hosting service to turn to that would not be a
big step backwards.

Again, thanks for all the helpful feedback Andrew.

At this point I've lost the original topic.
You seem to be intent on 2002. Buying 2002 is like buying last weeks
newspaper. If you're gonna buy anything, why not go for the latest? 2003
works great on Yahoo using the 2002 extensions as you've read here. (2002
IS the latest FPSE). And yes, both have spell checkers. I believe they
share the dictionary with Word.
Remember, just using tools will not give you a great product. It's how you
use the tools.

- \(James\)

Hi Wes,

I did buy 2003 and then I bought 2002 a couple of weeks ago.

"Remember, just using tools will not give you a great product. It's how you
use the tools." Well said, Wes.

If FP 2003 leans on WORD's dictionary, then I'm in trouble as it has a lot
of misspelled words in it, as the WORD version I have is from 1998 or 99 and
many different users have added there version of spellings to the
dictionary. Possibly there is a way to delete all those added words?

Goodnight my friend.

And... thanks for your kind and thoughtful feedback

C:\Documents and settings\owner\application data\Microsoft Proof\custom.dic.
You can just delete it, it will be recreated if need be.
If its a legal copy, how can many different users have added to it.
You should have spent the money on a new office suite instead of FP2002.
Just MHO. Aloha

Hello,

After extensive research reading groups and web based info, I still have not
been able to find a concise answer to the following concern.

I bought FrontPage 2002 (for a $100.00) from what appeared to be a
respectable website for an outdated copy of Front Page. I bought the older
version of FrontPage because Yahoo.com web hosting services does not fully
support versions newer than that I have FrontPage 2003 and it will not work
properly with Yahoo.com web hosting services.

However, all I got was a disk in an unsealed sleeve (no CD Case) with an
official looking product key taped to the sleeve.

The gold disc reads:

FULFILLMENT DISTRIBUTION (C) 2001

UNLICENSED SOFTWARE
ILLEGAL WITHOUT SEPARATE LICENSE FROM MICROSOFT

VERSION 2002
0301 PART NO. X06-22271

The part number is not found anywhere on the web when I last checked.

I have NOT installed it yet and I'm not sure I should at all. And what is
OEM?

Any solid help (even Microsoft links) would be wonderful.

Thanks in advance!

James

The one thing no one has mentioned, is that the copy you bought is a
pirated copy, as is ovious from the title of the message " Not for
Retail or OEM Distribution".

The following is from
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/...all/proddocs/en-us/lic_many_types_piracy.mspx

Are there different types of software piracy? Is one type of piracy less
damaging than any other?

There are five basic forms of software piracy, and all are damaging both
to the software publisher and to you, the end user. The following are
the five basic types of piracy:

....

License Misuse: Software distributed under special discount licenses,
either to high-volume customers, computer manufacturers, or academic
institutions, that is then redistributed to others who do not hold or
qualify for these licenses.

....

Microsoft World Wide Fulfillment (WWF) product misuse. This form of
license misuse occurs when an WWF product is diverted into normal
commercial channels of distribution. The WWF product may be distributed
only to end users who have a Select or Open license and who order the
product in accordance with their license terms. The WWF product has a
sticker on the jewel case identifying the product as "Microsoft World
Wide Fulfillment."

J

- \(James\)

Aloha Wes,

I will follow your advise as I pay for all of my licenses, thus all should
go well.

To answer your question, "how can many different users have added to it?"
Every time WORD finds a word that is not in its dictionary, it gives the
user a few options, one of which is, "ADD" to dictionary. Since the
computer I'm currently on is used by others, many words have been added to
the dictionary by users, including myself. However, I use a dictionary first
before adding a new spelling to WORD.

I did spend money not only on a new office suite, but a brand new computer
about 7 months ago, however, it's out of commission due to a worm and I have
not been able to resolve that problem yet and hope to do so very soon. I ran
a suppurate business on that computer that oversaw my merchant account, thus
the HD is full of customer info, so I cannot simply take it in for repair.
So I bought a second HD and will format it with the original OS software.
Since I have several computers to fall back on, I have been slow in getting
around to it. I tried it once, and got a bunch of messages that made no
sense to me. In the past, I would normally just take it into a shop, but I
moved to a remote area where there nearest city is an eighty-five mile
round trip.

So, I will use tech support via the phone to have them walk me through it.
I've installed a few HD's over the years, but something is over my head this
time around.

Take care,

- James

Hi Paul,

Thank you for your informative response. I just got off of the phone with
Microsoft's 1-800-RU-LEGIT hotline and after a five minute call I learned
the following.

The copy I have is legit. It is issued with new computers only and the
copies are SOMETIMES tailored somewhat to the needs/layout of the computer
it is issued for, thus it's not geared for general retail sales. No laws
have been broken as the copy I have is (not) stolen and is (not) a forge, as
Microsoft states that anyone is entitled to sell their original copy of a
given program as long as they uninstall it on their computer. However,
Microsoft records show that my copy and product key number have never been
registered and my copy checks out to have a valid product key.

Optionally, I have been advised to return the copy of FP 2002 to the
retailer and ask for a retail version of the software or ask for my money
back if they refuse. I will now call the retailer and ask for a retail
version.

Thanks again for all of your help.

Hi Craig,

I have to admit, there are some very serious problems with Yahoo sub-domain

No, your wording sounded like miscomprehension.

No doubt, as I'm dealing with a bad head cold on top of a fourteen hundred
