-> NOT FOR RETAIL OR OEM DISTRIBUTION <- ???

P

Paul S. Wolf

Hi Paul,

Thank you for your informative response. I just got off of the phone with
Microsoft's 1-800-RU-LEGIT hotline and after a five minute call I learned
the following.

The copy I have is legit. It is issued with new computers only and the
copies are SOMETIMES tailored somewhat to the needs/layout of the computer
it is issued for, thus it's not geared for general retail sales. No laws
have been broken as the copy I have is (not) stolen and is (not) a forge, as
Microsoft states that anyone is entitled to sell their original copy of a
given program as long as they uninstall it on their computer. However,
Microsoft records show that my copy and product key number have never been
registered and my copy checks out to have a valid product key.

Optionally, I have been advised to return the copy of FP 2002 to the
retailer and ask for a retail version of the software or ask for my money
back if they refuse. I will now call the retailer and ask for a retail
version.

Thanks again for all of your help.

- James

That's good to know. While you're at it, get the 2003 version, as
others have suggested. It is much improved and will work fine on any
site that has the 2002 extensions.

Hi again Paul,

A few of my post indicate my dilemma as I have purchased FP 2003, but had to
purchase FP 2002 as Yahoo does not support FP 2003 right now, only parts of
it.

Oh well, such is life.

James,

FP2003 supports everything that FP2000/FP2002 does, so there is no reason not to use FP2003. There
are no FP2003 extensions.

Hi Thomas,

I'm currently running OS SE 98, thus FP 2003 it is not compatible. I have
also have FP 2003 as well and a 3.2 G-Hz computer with XP but it's down for
now.

Thanks nevertheless for your thoughtful input.

Ok. You need to get the XP machine back up and running.

It should take you more than 3 or 4 hours, to reformat, install Windows XP and then your apps, but
that all depends on the size of your HD, system speed, and the number of apps to be re-installed and
configured. I just did my two machines last week.

The problem I have run into is (1) where to place the little jumper found on
the HD. I'm pretty sure I've got it right, but on boot up I get some strange
message that I do not understand. I will try again tomorrow and see what
gives.

Thanks for your encouragement nonetheless!

PS: 250 Meg Western Digital HD

If you just have a single Western Digital HD in the system / Cable, then you don't need the jumper.
Make sure that you are using the 80 wire cable and not the 40 wire cable.

Hi Thomas,

Okay. So I will remove the jumper. Note that the same Western Digital HD had
a jumper on it in the most right position, vertically placed, however, the
HD was partitioned for (C) and (D). As for the hardwire, I'm pretty sure
it's 80 pin. I will make sure when I get back into the office. It's an HP
3.0 bought new, about 8 months ago. I don't think the newer 250 gig HD's use
40 pin connectors.

None of the new WD HD will work correctly with a 40 pin cable, but I just want to make sure you were
using the right cable.

Starting from the pin next to the power connector, working left:

The first jumper set is Cable Select, I have never found this to work any computer I have had.

The second jumper is Slave, on applicable when you use the drive as a second HD on the cable with
another HD.

The third (middle) jumper set is for master, but only when you have a slave drive installed.

No jumper is need if no slave, also make sure the drive is being connected to end of the cable, not
the middle connector.

You will probably have to go into the BIOS Setup and enter the parameters of the new drive, or set
hard drive selection to "Auto Detect." The BIOS is most likely looking for the old hard drive which
no longer exists.

The new drive should be detected / set as drive 1 on the Primary IDE.
