Not publishing in PWA

Hello Gary,

Can this be fixed by using the rename tool instead of saving as MPP and
importing? We have been using dashes in our project file names since we've
started. It seems that since the beginning of this month very little of our
data from Project Professional and Web Access is showing in the OLAP cube. To
be specific, 3 projects of about 60 have some data in OLAP cube. One is only
alpha numeric and has all hours in Port Analyzer that are in Professional.
The other two have dashes, one is showing 3 hrs in PA and 75 in Professional
and the other is similar. I was thinking the problem may be similar.

Thanks,

DC

The errors are caused by your use of dashes in the project name. You should
save this plan as an mpp file, and import it back to Project Server under a
clean name. Use only alpha, numeric or underscores.

Now I saw this in the Event Viewer is full of these 2 warnings:

You can certainly try it.

Dale-

I have been searchiung for two days, both here and on your site, for the
list of illegal characters that BTOjohn lists in his post above. Maybe you
could add the list to your web site??

Thanks,

Kevin

Think about what you just said. Since PROJECT information is processed into
the OLAP cube, an illegal character in a PROJECT name can cause the building
of the OLAP cube to fail. The same restriction on illegal characters
applies to resource names as well. Hope this helps.

Hello John,

But those characteres are illegal to the name of the CUBE, not the name of
the PROJECTS? Right? That's what I understand of that message in "Manage
Enterprise Features".

I can't believe we can't put any simple character like "-" in the name of
a
project!

Thanks
Moreira

Hi Moreira,

The list of illegal characters is in PWA - Admin\Manage Enterprise
Features.

For info it is as follows:

/";:<>|[],.'?~`!$%^&*()-+={}\

Did you get a final answer to your errors. I have been getting them for
months, but it seems that only sometimes do they actually manifest
themselves
in a problem I can see!

Cheers,

John

:

How can I get a list of which caracters are allowed and which are not?
I
intend to do a validation when the users input the name of the project.

Thanks

Yes I caught that by my second reply

That's where the errors I posted yesterday came from.

Here's another error. Please note it happens with the Global.

Do you see errors in the server application event log?

Hello,

The PMs are updating their projects in the MSProject, clicking
in the
Publish button but it is not updating in PWA. The Project Server
Views
Notification Service is started.

Thanks in advance

Hi Kevin,

See KB Article 817782

"An OLAP cube was successfully built but with errors" error message when
you try to generate an OLAP cube from Project Server 2002
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817782/en-us?spid=2525&sid=292

Although it shows for PS 2002 it might be the same illegal characters
for PS2003:

/";:<>|[],.'?~`!$%^&*()-+={}\,

I'm sure Dale will advise either way...

Cheers,

Originally that was true for us, but because we now want to extend the OLAP
cube with task data, we have had to go back and change task names as well.
Keep this in mind down the road.
