Is it possible to have the envelope icon appear in the
systray to indicate a new message, without having Outlook
open and minimize? I have users who would like to receive
the notification, but don't want the program open all day.

No, because it's Outlook that places it there? Would you expect to be able
to create a Word document without running Word?
