Now What?

I have a website that is just full of graphic's " for
shopping" and I have them all on separate pages because
of the download time. This just doesn't look very
professional. Can anyone steer me in the right direction
for loading pages containing up to 10-12 graphic's on the
page so that the guy at 28.8 can see these too in the
same day?
I would appreciate any information or help that anyone
can give me.

Optimize your graphics using your favorite graphics editing software sothat
their file sizes (not the image size, but the file size) are as small as
possible. The total combined KB of the image files in a page should not go
about 100K.

you'll need to "optimize" the pictures. that is, make sure their physical
size and file size aren't too big.

there is a great program specifically for this at www.ulead.com called the
"smart saver". it'll do a batch resize and compression so you just have to
point it to the folder and let it go.

there are also free apps that will do similar but you might want to try the
free demo at ulead.

Okay -- sure you need to run each image through an optimization
process which will reduce the file size while retainingimage fidelity
which is going to be a judgement call on your part as you run the
optimizer but to answer your actual question about loading images
you need to use Javascript to 'preload' the images into the
browser's cache.

Google: "preload images"+"javascript"

try it you'll like it.
it's default compression does a better job than anything else I've tried,
even adobe stuff, even other ulead stuff.

Thanks Clinton, this is exactly what I was looking for. I
tried to look at the program at ulead but the darn thing
never would open the page. Thank goodness cause this is
what I was really looking for.

Yea -- I know -- I don't have a reading comprehension problem ;-)

I have older versions of the ULead 'WebRazor' that I use for optimizing
images and it produces excellent results. I do not think ULead continues
to sell WebRazor but assume they still bundle the WebRazor tools with
other low cost products.

Page performance is an important issue and image optimization is critical
so I suggest you give ULead another chance and try to determine what
they have to offer these days.

Glad I was able to help out...
