number of unread messages wrong at logon screen?

At the windows logon to user screen, it says i have 99 unread messages,
butwhen i open outlook, i do not have any unread massages, anyone help? I
have all the latest sevice pacs for xp and office 2003.

How do you know that you don't have any unread messages? Can you see every
one and see that they are not bold?

Perhaps you have a filter on that is hiding some messages.
Make sure you are sorting by Date.

For both above statements, right click on the "Arranged By" column header.
Choose "Date" if it is not the chosen field.
Choose Custom and check that the filter shows "Off" next to it.

Otherwise, if you are sure all messages are read, you can right click on
your Inbox and choose "Mark all as read" and make note if your unread
messages get out of whack again.
