Numbering duplicate email subjects

I got this question from a client:

One of our users just moved from Outlook XP to Outlook 2003. When he was
using Outlook XP, if he had a message with the same subject, the system
would automatically increment the message (see example below). Do you know
where this setting is in Outlook 2003?

Outlook has never had any such feature for incrementing the subject of a
message. I'm baffled by what the user may have thought he was seeing.

Thanks, Sue, for confirming what I thought.
You don't want know how long I looked for this feature
I even tried to figure out if it was a consequence of some grouping or
threading option, or something that could be set by rules.

Only thing I can figure is that it was a figment of his imagination, or
there was a custom script on the old Exchange server or on his old system.
