The 'innocent until proven guilty' is about who has the responsibility
of proving the case, in the US, it's the prosecutor. The French used to
have (may still have?) the opposite approach, where an accused person
had to prove his/her innocence. That would be like you having to prove
you have stopped beating your wife.
