Object Numbering

Susan H.

I am wanting to group lines and text boxes and I'm having difficulty getting
some of the objects selected. In Select Multiple Objects, there is a listing
of the various objects on the screen but how do you know what number belongs
to what object? What is listed is Group, Line, and Text Box. The Text Boxes
have the text showing that is within them so I can identify those but the
Group and Line objects are blank. Please help!

Hi Susan,

Generally, the graphic objects (only those not formatted
as 'in line with text') are numberd in the order in which
they were added to the document, starting with item #13.
Unfortunately the Multiple Selection tool isn't 'hot'
(that is you can't toggle the checkbox of an item on and
off to get a visual reference to which object you just selected.

But, for each of the graphic objects you can use
Format=>Autoshape=>/Web\ (or double click the
autoshape to get there) to add 'alternate text' tied
to the shape. About the first 30 or so characters of
that text will show up in the Select Multiple Object
tool list
