objects doubles/unable to cut

When I move an autoshape, the original placement remains and can't be cut

Kristin,
Not sure what your problem is, in the subject you claim the object doubles,
in the body of your message you say the AutoShape cannot be cut out. If the
object doubles that would mean you are using the ctrl key to move it, or
maybe there the ctrl key on your keyboard gets stuck. Moving should be easy,
just select, then drag the object.

I'm not sure I understand the situation. Are you possibly just having a
display issue? That is, the original isn't really there, it just looks like
it is.
