I know this is not the right forum, but perhaps someone here can point me in
the right direction to find an answer this question.
Is there a way to share applications on a home network? I mean one computer
has the actual application ( word, excell, fromt page, etc) installed and the
other computers on the net work can run those applicatins.

Thanks,
Dick

Usually not. Most programs utilize the registry in one way
or another. There are ways around this but it all depends
on the network.

best way I've found is to set the stuff up on a PC with XP pro, then use the
resources on it from other computers via "remote desktop".

I'm not sure about the legalities of it/ license-wise but that's basically
what I do when I use my laptop to connect to my various other computer to
check email, publish a change to a web etc.

the only bad thing I've found with it is if the computer I want to use is in
"sleep" or "hibernate" the remote desktop will not wake it up, even though
I've got them set so that they can be woken up by networked computers.

It is on XP pro in >Start >All Programs >Accessories
Communications.
The host computer needs to be XP pro also. The client
accessing it can be earlier, but the RDC client would need
to be installed on it from the XP CD.
The host computer would be effectively logged out during the
entire session.

Thanks so much, I am running XP Home but it seems to work the same for this.
I'll see ifI can follow the instructions and get this set up. Do you know of
any good tutorials for doing this?

Mike,
would you happen to have found a way to let the remote access "ping" wake up
the other computer?

I use it very infrequently, and my machines are always up &
running.
