Office 2000 and service pack 3

I have been trying to install service pack for Office 2000 and so far have
been unsuccessful. I started a week or two ago trying to update to SP3.
The first time I thought it was successful. As a matter of fact, when I
open any of the Office 2000 programs and click on "Help" and "About" that
particular program, it shows that it is version "SP3." But in trying to get
the other updates, Office Update shows I still need SP3 and all the other
updates after it are grayed out. If I click on install SP3, it starts the
download and install but very quickly tells me the install was unsuccessful.
I have even tried to download the SP3 file from the Microsoft KB article.
When I double-click on the file O2ksp3.exe, it tells me that the update is
already installed and quits the update. I have even uninstalled my firewall
and anti-virus thinking they might be causing a conflict but that didn't
solve the problem either. I also uninstalled Office 2000 and reinstalled it
but to no avail.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Are all your Windows Updates installed yet? Which operating system are you
using? I used to use Windows 2000/Office 2000 for quite a while, and I had
the chance to rebuild quite a few systems. If you are installing a new or
rebuilt system and do things in the wrong order you will wind up with an
unstable system. I recommend installing Windows and all Windows Updates
first, then Office. I believe the order for Office is base product, then
SP1, then SP1a and finally SP3. As I remember the one that takes a long
time is SP1.

Hope this helps some.
