Office 2000 install aborts without error at S/N screen

I am running Windows XP Pro. I am trying to reload office on my hard drive.
All my office apps are upgrades from Office95 on. I have re-installed
Office95 successfully. When I try to install Office 2000 upgrade, the install
aborts without 'error', at the serial number screen. When I attempted to
install Office XP, (afteer unsuccessful 2000 install) the same event occurs.
Abort of install without 'error', at the serial number insert screen. I'm an
experienced computer user, (really!!) and have not had difficulty with these
installations before. By the way, my OS Win XP Pro is at SP1.HELP!!!!!

LeBipster,
Just a suggestion, did you reformat your drive then update Windows to SP1
before you installed the original Office installation then proceed with your
"upgrades"? This could be the problem. You could try installing Office on the
original release of XP if you have it available, then apply software updates
in order of release. You can search here for:

Thank you Chris. I'll try your suggestion. Yes, I did reformat and then
updated windows to SP1 prior to installing Office. I'll let you know how your
suggeestion works.

LeBipster,
Takes a bit of research on going back so far on an Office version
installation with Windows XP. At the download center check the dates of each
sp release, file the links somewhere, Excel maybe, then apply according to
date of release for best success. When you get to Windows XP SP2, do a bunch
of research before applying.
