Office 2000 reinstallation

C

I had a problem with corruption of the c:\drive on my Dell
Inspiron. Dell said that I needed to reformat the c:\
drive using the recovery CD provided and then reload
Windows 98. According to Dell, all the files were
supposed to be deleted and I would need to reinstall any
drivers and programs. I have completed installing all the
drivers and tried to install Office 2000 back. But, I
could not do it. The cd install process would only show
the first screen and would not continue. Cancel was the
only option available to select, but it did not respond
when selected. The icons for my Office 2000 (word,
excell) are still there, but the software is not behind it
which surprised me since I thought that everything would
be wiped off my c:\ drive.
It appears that some of the Office 2000 information is
still on the c:\ drive which makes me think that
everything was not wiped out as Dell said it would be. I
think when I put the Office 2000 cd in for reinstallation,
it may look to some file and does not go through the
install process because it thinks Office 2000 is already
installed. But, I am not sure about this. However, I
cannot find a way to delete the programs because when I go
to the Control Panel - Add/Delete programs, the Office
2000 information is not there.
Has anyone experienced this type of problem or have a clue
as to what I should do? I was thinking about going to
the C:\.... Programs\office and deleting that file (or
copying to another disk) to see if that will trigger the
Office 2000 install. The last thing that I can think of
is that the Office 2000 cd provided with my computer is
not working properly but that is a stretch.
Calling Dell is my last resort because last time it took
nearly an hour and 4 different people to even determine
that I needed to reformat the c:\ drive. I am out of
warranty, so, basically I am not a high priority for
them.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance...
