Office 2000 will not re-install.

I get an error message stating that the patch package could not be opened. I
have XP Sp2 installed. The installation disk just quits when I get that
message. Does anybody have a clue?

You are probably missing a locally cached patch. You will probably have to
uninstall completely. If your uninstall fails, use msizap. You can verify
your cached patches by going to this registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Patches
Click on each compressed guid and verify that the .msp actually exists in
the folder specified by the localpackage variable.
