Office 2002 and 2003

I have had problems getting both Office 2002 and Office 2003 to work with the
new Windows XP Service Packs. I originally set up my system with Windows XP
and downloaded all the service packs and upgrades. I then installed Office
and likewise downloaded and installed all the upgrades. As soon as I load any
of the Office programs, mainly Word, the system tells me that it has
recovered from a serious error and needs to be restarted. This happens each
time I try to load it. The only way I have been able to prevent this is to
not install any of the XP service packs. I dont know if it is just one of the
upgrades that are not compatible or the whole enchilada. I have tried to
e-mail microsoft about this problem and got no reply. Does anyone out there
have a solution to this problem. If not does anyone have any suggestions for
a compatible software package to Office, preferably not one made by Microsoft.

Great price too, free. Not sure it will solve your problem, though, because
Office XP (2002) and 2003 should work fine with XP/SP2.

Wow, that looks like some really nice software and FREE too. I went ahead and
downloaded it and will give it a try. It is always nice to see someone other
than Microsoft making some headway. I am just so frustrated with Office right
now. This new software looks like it even does more and they offer more
packages that dont even come with Office. I wonder how they can offer it
free. I guess they are trying to get it our there and get noticed. Thanks for
your quick reply.

Best practice is to apply service packs in order of release date. Windows xp
sp2 being the last applied.

O is a nice set of limited Office applications but what keeps it one step
behind Microsoft Office is its lack of integrated email and office
automation. Otherwise, it is fine for most home users.

Typically this is caused by a third-party conflict. such as an add-in,
rather than the Office installation. Since the primary error occurs in
Word then here is an article that the common troubleshooting steps:

Chances are when you resolve the error for Word the errors will be
resolved in the other Office applications.

Window XP's Service Pack 2 replaces and improves on all
prior updates. None of which have to be installed before
Service Pack 2.
